Use of Optical Sorting to Detect Karnal Bunt-Infected Wheat Kernels
نویسندگان
چکیده
A high-speed sorter was used to remove kernels infected with Karnal bunt from 1800g wheat samples. When the sorter removed about 8% or more of the sample, the reject portion contained 100% of the bunted kernels. Concentrating the bunted kernels in a smaller sample size will reduce sample inspection time and should reduce inspection errors. One high-speed sorter can process up to 8800 kg/hr, thus bunted kernels can be rapidly removed from samples or large lots. The instrument sorted each sample in less than 1 minute. This technology provides the wheat industry with a tool to rapidly inspect samples to aid in regulating Karnal bunt, and to remove bunted grains from seed wheat and wheat destined for food or feed use.

Isolation and in-silico characterization of Peroxidase isoenzymes from Wheat (Triticum aestivum) against Karnal Bunt (Tilletia indica)
To investigate the role of Peroxidase and its physiological significance under Karnal Bunt (KB) were determined in resistant (HD-29) and susceptible genotype (WH-542) of wheat during different developmental stages. The enzymes were expressed constitutively in both the susceptible and resistant genotype. In gel assay and differential expression analysis of POD was significantly higher (p >0.05) ...
متن کاملRainfall and temperature distinguish between Karnal bunt positive and negative years in wheat fields in Texas.
Karnal bunt of wheat, caused by the fungus Tilletia indica, is an internationally regulated disease. Since its first detection in central Texas in 1997, regions in which the disease was detected have been under strict federal quarantine regulations resulting in significant economic losses. A study was conducted to determine the effect of weather factors on incidence of the disease since its fir...
متن کاملDraft genome sequence of Karnal bunt pathogen (Tilletia indica) of wheat provides insights into the pathogenic mechanisms of quarantined fungus
Karnal bunt disease in wheat is caused by hemibiotrophic fungus, Tilletia indica that has been placed as quarantine pest in more than 70 countries. Despite its economic importance, little knowledge about the molecular components of fungal pathogenesis is known. In this study, first time the genome sequence of T. indica has been deciphered for unraveling the effectors' functions of molecular pat...
متن کاملImproved Detection of Tilletia indica Teliospores in Seed or Soil by Elimination of Contaminating Microorganisms with Acidic Electrolyzed Water
The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of acidic electrolyzed water (AEW) to eliminate microorganisms other than Tilletia indica Mitra teliospores from wheat seed and soil extracts. The teliospores then can be identified by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test (9,10,26). Growth of contaminants can obscure germinating T. indica teliospores and inhibit teliospore germination ...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of Two Monosporidial Lines of the Karnal Bunt Fungus Tilletia indica Mitra (PSWKBGH-1 and PSWKBGH-2)
Karnal bunt disease caused by the fungus Tilletia indica Mitra is a serious concern due to strict quarantines affecting international trade of wheat. We announce here the first draft assembly of two monosporidial lines, PSWKBGH-1 and -2, of this fungus, having approximate sizes of 37.46 and 37.21 Mbp, respectively.
